Hello there. Thank you for opening this. I hope you are all very well.
Conversations As Nature. Here is something i love to do. It is the result of taking a camera and zoom lens out when in the zone and just allow what happens to happen. Maybe unremarkable in some senses, but i enjoy stitching it all together and creating and recording the sound for these moments. It’s amazing the little things that are happening all around us. Birds and their business are good for helping me into that zone. Always chatting to one another and going to and fro.
When filming the scrap yard and the delivery of shipping of metal scrap i was asked by a dock worker to leave and not film. During our conversation he told me that all the metal that was being delivered from around the country was loaded on this ship so it could then go and meet another boat somewhere exotic. Here it would then unload the metal onto a bigger ship which would travel to China for the metal to be delivered and repurposed. I like the idea of zooming out and seeing all that process in fast forward on a map, and then zooming back into the snails paced version watching the drivers come from all over the country with truckloads of metal. The size and power of that machine loading the metal reminded me of an experience i used to have when i was little, where everything was big but small, strong but soft, sharp but blunt. Massive vibrations. Haha. Something like that.
Take care
Paul
